Organizing Your Footwork
Saturday March 26th 10am-12pm
Whether starting a young horse or tuning up an older one, this class will help you focus on helping your horse understand what you are asking of him. It also teaches you how a horse needs to prepare himself for what you are asking him to do. Whether you ride or drive your horse it is important to learn how he moves naturally and when he is balanced. The more you learn about a horse's movement, the better your timing, and the easier it is for your horse to work in cooperation with you.
$75 for Participants, $25 for auditors
Preregistration is required.

Recognizing the "Brace" and How To Work Through It
Tuesday, March 29th 10am-12pm
We all want our horses to respond with cooperation and understanding. Learning to recognize when a horse is bracing in defense of himself and how to help him through to softness while on the ground will help when you need your horse to be with you under saddle. This class will help you understand how groundwork transfers to riding and/or driving and how the work you do with your horse on the ground helps to create a safe ride/drive.

Checklist for Mounted Work
Tuesday April 26th 10am-12pm: SPACE AVAILABLE
Learn to check in with your horse before you ride or drive him. This class will offer a checklist to use to get with your horse before you ride/drive him. You don't have to spend a whole lot of time lunging and exercising beforehand if you have been doing your groundwork regularly. Your checklist will help get your horse with you before you ride/drive. The stronger your connection the safer it will be for both of you.

Mark gomez
***Mark Gomez April 17th clinic has been RESCHEDULED to April 24th***
about Mark Gomez
For over forty years Mark Gomez of Hilltop Polo and Positive Results Training has been training horses of all breeds and disciplines using natural horsemanship methods. Mark grew up on a dairy farm in Northwest CT but always wanted to be a cowboy. When their father bought them a pony, Mark and his siblings rode mostly bareback, practicing roping and cow chasing. His herd eventually expanded to a string of fifty and he went to Oregon to work at a ranch.
Upon his return to Connecticut Mark began a lifelong working partnership with Leslie Desmond. They were both bitten by the polo bug and through his work with her Mark expanded and refined his training techniques. Incorporating the influences of John Lyons, Ray Hunt, Bill and Tom Dorrance, and more recently Warwick Schiller and Tristan Tucker, Mark’s techniques aim to foster relaxation, balance, and impulsion – the core foundation of training.
Mark believes “every horse, pony, donkey, and mule” can be in charge of their own feelings and his training provides strategic ways for them to practice handling their natural flight, fight, or freeze instincts.
In recent years, the dressage community has embraced natural horsemanship as a pathway to greater suppleness and stability. Mark works with horses on the ground, under saddle, or at liberty, offering them and their human partners the opportunity to gain clarity and completely synchronize with one another.
In addition to training and offering clinics, Mark is a farrier, a polo umpire, and an Associate Professor at Post University in Waterbury, CT, teaching Equine Communication.
