I have learned over the years to appreciate the number 4. The number of structure and stability. I teach the 4 Basic Characteristics of the horse, the 4 Herd Rules, the 4 Basic Skills. I teach workshops in series of four because in order to build a solid, stable foundation it takes time to learn the skills, apply the skills, practice the skills, and review the skills I teach.
For years I have been the voice for the horse. The voice folks weren’t hearing, or rather didn't know their language well enough to listen to them. I’ve learned how hard it is for the horse to get along in human society and therefore, through this misunderstanding of the horse by humans, watched too many humans and horses get hurt.
Both the human and the horse can develop skills that help them both get along with each other in a safe and respectful manner. But, it is up to the human who is handling the horse, no matter the discipline, to establish and maintain the habits they desire. This does not happen overnight for either the horse nor for the human.
My workshops are designed to offer structure and stability in the horse/human relationship.
Progress is made when time is spent learning the things that are important to the horse. After all, he is a different species with a different language and culture, and therefore has different priorities.
What authentic horsemanship is really about is time invested in you and your horse’s education as a team and building a partnership where both the horse and the human seek to have a solid understanding of each other.
You can arrange to have Margaret produce a Workshop Series on a topic of your choice with your own group at Sovereign Hilltop or at your facility.
It is recommended you audit a series of workshops before you participate with a horse.
